Lantern Parade
At Christkindlmarkt, we aim to put the KIND in Christ-KIND-lmarkt by celebrating St. Martin’s Day. St. Martin’s Day is a holiday that honors a soldier who gave the coat off of his back to save a freezing man. In Germany, children make paper lanterns and parade though town. At Christkindlmarkt, we celebrate this holiday during the market with our own Lantern Parade and the St Martin’s Project that supports a different local charitable organization each year. Christkindlmarkt SLC invites Utah families to join our lantern parade. Start a new tradition, serve others, and feel the magic of the season!
Join the Lantern Parade
Come join the fun! To participate in the St. Martin’s Lantern parade, every participant needs to do the following:
Sign up by Tuesday, December 2nd using this google form.
Perform an act of service before the parade.
It can be big or small - be creative! Say “hello” to someone who looks lonely, shovel the sidewalk for a neighbor, or participate in a service project. The opportunities are endless!
Create or bring a lantern.
Bring one from home, make a traditional lantern (the internet has lots of tutorials!) or make something unique.
Dress festively.
This is a celebration! If you have a favorite holiday hat, red or green outerwear, or even something German, wear it!
Arrive at This is the Place Heritage Park no later than 4:00 pm on Thursday, December 4th for our 6:00 pm parade.
This will help you beat traffic, and you’ll have some time to see the market before the parade starts! You will need to register to receive a specific meeting location.
We look forward to celebrating this season with you! If you have any questions, please reach out to ckmparades@gmail.com.
